Details: Pick up from your location in Bucharest early in the morning and start to explore the capital of Romania. First stop at Village Museum, lying in a specific romanian setting, on the Herãstrãu lake shore in Bucharest, is one of the biggest and the oldest outdoors museum in Europe. Its exhibits - genuine monuments including houses, pens, churches, water and wind mills, cloth mills, of great historic and artistic value - acquaint the visitors in two hours with the specific of the Romanian village. The objects inside the households - carpets, pottery, rugs, icons, furniture - point to the originality of the folk creation, the sensibility and care for the beauty of the rural people. Than we’ll start a panoramic tour of the most important sites and areas from the city such as: Triumph Arch, Victory Square, Magheru Avenue (comercial street), Royal Palace (nowdays the seat of National Art Museum), Atheneum, Revolution Square, Calea Victoriei Avenue, Unirii Square, Parliament Palace (Standard Tour + Overview of the city), a "giant" built during the "golden age" of the dictatorial regime and born in the mind of a man for whom the notion of "reasonable size" did not exist. The Guiness Book of World Records lists the building in second place according to its 330,000 sq.m. surface, that is after the Pentagon building, and in third place according to its 2,550,000 c.m. volume.

After the Parliament Palace visit we will make a short stop for lunch (optional), at a traditional Romanian resturant, „La Mama”.

Near to the Parliament Palace is the “Mitropoliei” Hill where we can visit the Mitropoliei Cathedral the seat of the Orthodox Romanian Church. Than return in the Old District for a walking tour: Lipscani street, Stavropolus Church, Capsa Hotel, Manuc Inn, a.s.o.

The best way to end the day is with a dinner (optional) in a character restaurant such as: “Carul cu bere”, “Manuc” Restaurant. Drop off at your location in Bucharest.

Day 3: Sibiu – Bucharest Brekfast.

Spend the morning in the medieval Saxon burgh of Sibiu, regarded as one of the most beautiful and best preserved cities in Romania and Europe as well as one of the most important cultural centers, designated in 2007 European Capital of Culture. Enjoy its arched passageways, cobblestone streets, baroque facades, medieval towers, the numerous cafés and the lively atmosphere. The visit starts with a short orientation tour of the city, followed by time for strolling at leisure. (Optional, not included) lunch in Sibiu. In the afternoon, return to Bucharest via the scenic Olt River Gorge.

Day 1: Bucharest – Gura Humorului (Voronet) In the morning our guide will pick-up you from your hotel. Leave Bucharest in our way to the north region of Romania – Bucovina, the land of painted monasteries and traditions. There is about 8 hours drive time until our destination. End the day in the Voronet – Gura Humorului area. Accomodation at Vornet at Casa Elena Complex 4* or similar.

Day 2: Gura Humorului – Moldovita – Sucevita – Putna – Gura Humorului Breakfast early in the morning. Today we’ll visit some of the World famous Painted Monasteries

  • Moldovita (UNESCO): dates back from 1532 and is due to the ruling prince Petru Rares. It has the aspect of a fortress, with imposing towers and high, thick walls. It Is decorated with scenes from the 16th century Moldavian life. You can see here the best preserved frescoes, with fresh and vivid colors.
  • Sucevita: the last and the most magnificent monastic achievement among the painted monasteries in Bucovina, looks as a real fortress, with towers, buttresses and watch roads. Paintings of the Sucevita monastery were best preserved both on the outside and on the inside (Ladder of Virtue, the last Judgment, the tree of Jesse)
  • Putna: The edifice was erected among 1466 and 1469 and consecrated in 1470. Miniature painters, many embroiderers, icon makers, weavers, silversmiths, sculptors in wood and book-binders toiled on in the quiet atmosphere of the monks' cells at Putna.

Day 3: Gura Humorului – Suceava – Gura Humorului

Breakfast and continue the visits to the Bucovina County.

  • Voronet Monastery (UNESCO): founded in 1488 by Stefan cel Mare. Voronet Monastery had been dubbed the oriental Sistine Chapel , whereas Voronet Blue, a color obtained from lapis lazuli, entered in the lexicon of art alongside Titian red and Veronese green, and to this day has yet to be reproduced by natural means
  • Humor (UNESCO): dates from 1530, this monastery was among the first churches to be painted, the frescoes were painted in 1535. Humor is painted in reddish brown (from oriental madder pigment), colors are brilliant and truthful to nature.

Than go to Suceava, the former capital of Moldova in medieval ages. Here we visit Suceava Citadel, which was built during the rule of the Prince Petru I Musat (1375-1391), having 10 m high and 2 m thick defense walls and a defense tower in every corner, the entrance into the citadel being realized by crossing a bridge with piers. Here died Stefan cel Mare. End the day back in Voronet or Gura Humorului. Accomodation at Vornet at Casa Elena Complex 4* or similar.

Day 4: Gura Humorului – Neamt – Bucuresti

Breakfast early in the morning. Leave the Bucovina area and we are going on the route to visit the Neamt Citadel, one of the oldest and most important medieval fortresses from Romania. The citadel was built in 14th century on a high cliff assuring a perfect defensive location. Recently restored the Neamt Citadel present to its visitors the old defensive system and an interesting medieval collection. In the afternoon arrive in Bucharest.

 

DANUBE DELTA (3 days)

We experience the beauty of the landscape, explore the flooded woodlands of willow and poplar, the paradise of birds and the kingdom of ‘plaur' – flooded islets made of reeds and accessible to only few privileged visitors and have fun at the camp fire or picturesque lunch or dinner.
